My Group Report.

Process and Methods

Prior to the mentioning of this assignment, it was a hard choice for me at first to choose my suitable partner. In the end, I decided to pair up with Weng Yew, who I found out that he has just enrolled into UCSI University. He also happens to be my ex-school mate. Around that night, we then discussed about how the HTML page should be formed. We then decided that the suitable title for our HTML page is "Welcome to our Page", since both of us have agreed on using this sentence as our title. After that's been done, we then started the coding process, by using certain types of HTML tags via 'Notepad' that helps us to make an entirely unique HTML page, and at the same time I was the one who will upload the necessary image files on 'Bravehost'.

In the process of making the HTML page, we both decided to use a custom wallpaper as our HTML page's background, inserted a "Blogger" button image, and a moving UCSI logo, when clicked, will go to the main UCSI website, alongside the needed requirements such as the 2 paragraphs of text about ourselves, a picture of us and the hyperlinks to each of our own blog sites. After all that, I copied all of the contents in the HTML file. Then, I modified the contents of the default HTML file on the 'Bravehost' web server with the completed contents of our HTML file. After the HTML part has been done, we then proceed to doing the blog report, on our own blogs. This was the last step in our Assignment 1 process.

Technologies & Tools

The technologies & tools that I've used for this assignment is mainly my Windows XP desktop PC, Notepad, the Bravehost.com free web hosting site, the previous exercises that we have done during the lab session, and the strong teamwork between me and my partner.

HTML Coding

In the HTML aspect, during the early stages of coding the HTML file, I've used a variety of HTML tags that has been taught before in the class and in the lab sessions, such as the 'bold' tags, the 'italicize' tags, the 'underline' tags, the 'line break' tag that's also known as the 'br' tag. I also applied details like inserting a certain image file on the HTML file, and make it linkable to the site which I assigned it to, applying different font face and size as well as using certain font colors on my two paragraphs of text to make it more nicer.

I tried to use the 'marquee' HTML tag on the heading of my HTML file but it didn't turn up the way I've expected it to, so my partner and I decided to replace the heading with a picture of UCSI's logo, which links itself to the main UCSI website. Besides that, I also applied the 'table' HTML tags on my 2 paragraphs of text to make it look more arranged, and applying the 'target' tag on my HTML page's blog link so that it will open the blog pages in a new window, instead of in the same window . Other than that, I also found that it's possible to put a custom background image on my HTML page, so I attempted to try it out by typing out the necessary codes and using a 'dummy' custom background image first. It worked, and the background image showed on my HTML page. I then modified it and placed a suitable custom background image.

Suitable Web Hosting Server

Actually, prior to the mentioning of this assignment, I decided to check out both of the free web hosting sites that the lecturer has mentioned, which are 'Bravehost' and 'Geocities'. I tested out both of them and I find that the 'Bravehost' free web hosting site is much easier to use, compared to the 'Geocities' free web hosting site. Eventhough the 'Free' package only offers 50MB Disk Space, it's not really a big deal since the necessary images that I uploaded on this web hosting site just for this assignment don't really take up that much space.

Uploading Files

Well, eventhough I don't seem to have any difficulty in uploading the necessary image files on the suitable web hosting site which my partner and me are using, that is Bravehost, it can be a hassle sometimes, as in, it is sometimes very slow while I try to upload more than 1 image file on this site.

Blog

Well, since I used to do blogging before, I don't think I have any problems at all while creating a new blog. I'm also aware that it's possible for me to create more than 1 blog via my account, since I've actually created a few blogs before I created this blog that's specifically just for this assignment. As for using a blog, I'm already familiar with the usual blogging know-how's, like making a new blog post, editing a published blog post at anytime you want, as some examples.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, the lessons that I've learned from this assignment has really helped me a lot in my understanding of each of the basic HTML codes that have been mentioned above, since I didn't realise that it's even actually possible to do the coding of HTML codes via a simple program like 'Notepad'. Through this assignment, I've equipped myself with the knowledge of coding using 'Notepad'. It was definitely a right choice for me to select Weng Yew as my partner as we both shared our knowledge and opinions while doing this assignment, and if I were to do this assignment again but in a different manner, I'd try to make my HTML page and blog site even more unique and better than before.
